Cemetery Regulations & Policies

Boonsboro Cemetery Association Grave Site Regulations

The Boonsboro Cemetery has been the final resting place for members of our
community since its establishment in 1864. Many of our citizens use this historic and peaceful corner of our community for walking, prayer and meditation on a regular basis.

The Boonsboro Cemetery Association has been responsible for the management and care of the Cemetery since By-Laws stipulating its use were adopted in 1882. We have taken these duties seriously and strive to provide compassionate service to our community.

The following regulations were developed for the benefit of cemetery lot owners to
assist in maintaining dignified, peaceful, and beautiful final resting places for their loved ones:

  • Memorial monuments and markers of all kinds, including their placement and installation, must be approved by the Cemetery Association. These specifications are provided at the time of lot purchase and may be found on our website at www.boonsborocemetery.org.
  • Funeral service flowers will be removed from a grave site by Cemetery personnel seven days after the service.
  • Flowers and/or decorations of all kinds should be no taller than 24 inches and are to be placed only at the base of the monument or lot marker to allow for passage of the mowers.
  • No permanent plants, trees, shrubs, or flowers are to be planted at or near a grave site.
  • The placement of mulch, fencing, borders, and curbs at grave sites is not permitted.
  • No glass or pottery containers are to be used for the placement of flowers.
  • The cemetery provides a trash receptacle at the cemetery entrance for discarded flowerarrangements, paper and other waste material.
  • All Christmas flowers and decorations not removed by March 1st will be removed by Cemetery Association personnel.
  • All Easter/Spring/Summer flowers and decorations not removed by October 1st will be removed by Cemetery Association personnel.
  • Mowing, trimming, seeding and placement of sod will be performed only by
    representatives of the Cemetery Association.
  • Planting, trimming and/or removal of trees and shrubs will be performed only by representatives of the Cemetery Association.
  • Except for service dogs, dogs are not permitted on Cemetery grounds.
  • The Cemetery is closed to all visitors at dark each day.

Cemetery Lots

The following restrictions apply to cemetery lots purchased in Boonsboro Cemetery to protect the beauty of the Cemetery and help with mowing and maintenance:

1.  On 4 and 8-grave lots, an upright monument may be placed in the center of the lot.  One upright monument will be allowed per lot with flat markers allowed on each grave site.

2.  In the memorial section of the Cemetery, flat markers must be used. No upright monuments are permitted in this section.

3.  In Section D, located in the Cemetery’s southwest section, 2-grave lots may be purchased with one upright monument centered on the lot, as well as two flat markers allowed per lot.  This applies to Section D only.

4. All new monument or marker placements must be approved by Cemetery personnel.

Thank you.
